Book
Books of yesteryear often included illustrations that captured the storyline at the beginning of a chapter. Sometimes the illustrations are as familiar as the books themselves and an original can even be more valuable than a signed first edition. The styles and techniques are as varied as the stories they bring to life. From novels to children’s books, illustrations enrich the characters in a way words alone cannot. Magazines used illustration art to add a “visual voice” to the text. From popular women’s magazines of the 50s and 60s to Rolling Stone and The New Yorker today, illustration has been a mainstay on the cover and throughout the pages, enriching our lives as well as the stories.
